Cello carved in Basalt Rock with Bronze Elements

This is an extraordinarily unique piece: a cello carved in a large slab of black basalt rock. Contrary to the artist’s usual working style, this basalt rock has not been carved into the shape of a cello, but rather the cello has been carved within the large space in the middle of the rock, mischievously inviting the viewer to take a second, longer look.

The cello strings and upper portion are crafted of golden bronze, which, with the integration of the black hue of the rock, create a bold, sassy look.

The entire piece rests on a base of black basalt rock.
