During the Western Wall Heritage Foundation’s tender for sculpture of a menorah memorial for the 6 million Jews who died in the Holocaust, Hanoch Ben-Dov’s offer was selected from those of 10 other artists.  The menorah was designed and sculpted to exactly match the dimensions of its permanent display space – in the Western Wall tunnels, opposite the Holy of Holies.

The menorah is crafted of red stone, Yiftah marble from the Upper Galilee, and bronze.  This menorah has gained recognition in major newspapers and through its many tours across the world.

The bronze arms were crafted in advance with unique forging methods and integrated into the marble piece using a special technique developed by Hanoch.  The marble stone, which originates in the Upper Galilee region of Israel, was carved and polished to adapt it to the final vision.

The materials were selected for their special blending and for the contrasts of bronze and reddish stone.  At all hours of the day, the menorah is lit with olive oil, and it has already assisted in illuminating the visit experience to the Western Wall for hundreds of thousands of visitors.

Emblem of the State of Israel https://chanoch-bendov.com/product/emblem-of-the-state-of-israel/ Sat, 12 Nov 2022 11:30:42 +0000 https://chanoch-bendov.com/?post_type=product&p=134 he emblem of the State of Israel, crafted from carved Jerusalem stone and forged iron – a large, detailed piece of work one cannot ignore.

The piece matches the emblem of the State of Israel in perfect scale.  At the base are 3 heavy stairs of Jerusalem stone.  The top two stairs are hexagons, with a Magen David carved into the top stair.

From the center of the stone emerges a menorah of forged iron.  The menorah arms are ornamental, with a flattened platform at the top on which to rest candles.  On each side of the menorah arms are olive branches, with leaves of delicately forged iron that are connected to the stone.

At the base of the work is the name of the State of Israel, in forged iron.

The Menorah of Justice https://chanoch-bendov.com/product/the-menorah-of-justice/ Sat, 12 Nov 2022 11:25:58 +0000 https://chanoch-bendov.com/?post_type=product&p=130 The Menorah of Justice – a menorah in a scales of justice design, it was designed especially for the Israeli Supreme Court.  The work integrates the symbol of the State of Israel – the menorah – with the scales, the universal symbol of justice.

The scales open out from the central menorah arm and pass above the other arms, creating a symmetry and an extraordinary design.  The arms sit inside a large pillar of Jerusalem stone, carved and prepared for this purpose.

An original piece of art that expresses the artist’s impression of the integration of values of justice in the establishment and existence of the State of Israel.

Menorah in a Star Of David https://chanoch-bendov.com/product/menorah-in-a-star-of-david/ Sat, 12 Nov 2022 11:24:07 +0000 https://chanoch-bendov.com/?post_type=product&p=128 A large Magen David carved into Jerusalem stone sits at the base of this menorah.

In the center of the Magen David is a hollow, from which emerge the iron arms of the Menorah.  The menorah and Magen David are raised and sit on an iron leg that is connected to the bottom of the stone.

The iron arms create a classic, intense menorah, and their integration into the Magen David, which is of Jerusalem stone, adds depth and further symbolism from the Jewish world.  Together, they render this menorah an intense Jewish experience.

The difference between simplicity and cleanliness in the design of this menorah and the roughness of the Magen David carved in stone, add an interesting contrast to this work, urging the observer to take yet another look, and another.
